21 September 2002 Three stalwarts of the first team are made available for transfer with claims that dropping attendances make this move inevitable. Foran, Andrews and Whitehead will be allowed to leave for the right price so funds can be used to strengthen the squad.  United beat Boston 4 - 2 at home with Brian Wake scoring three and claiming the match ball. Oldham Athletic away will be the opponents in the first round of the LDV Vans Trophy. The game must be settled on the night and will be played on the 22nd or 23rd of October. Other news - Arsenal remain two points clear at the top of the premiership after Kanu snatches as last minute winner against Bolton Wanderers. Peter Reid say he won't be quitting after being beaten 2 - 0 by Newcastle. Iraq says it will ignore any new resolutions adopted by the United Nations Security Council. Thousands of demonstrators head for London ahead of Sunday's countryside march, as evening vigils mark the start of the protest.

3 Games Man of the Match - Peter Murphy, his hard work and his ability to spot an outlet created a lot of the attacking play.

3 Games comment - This was just what we needed, a win and four goals  has got to boost confidence. Boston  are certainly not the best team we've faced this year, but it was good to see our players creating chances and bridging the gap between midfield and defence.

23 September 2002 - Trevor Molloy leaves the club and returns to Dublin where it is expected he will resign for Shelbourne.  Other newsWorkington express interest in ex United player Tony Hopper. Roy Keane will face a Football Association disciplinary hearing on 15 October. The charges relate to an account in his autobiography of an incident with Manchester City's Alfe Inge Haaland during a match in April 2001. Zimbabwe cricket captain Heath Streak has suffers a suspected dislocated collar bone in a road accident in Sri Lanka. Tony Blair tells his cabinet that the policy of containing Saddam Hussein has failed and that the Iraqi dictator must be stopped. An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale shakes parts of the West Midlands, Wales, North Yorkshire, London, and Wiltshire. The quake which had its epicentre in Dudley in the West Midlands lasted for around 30 seconds causing minor structural damage but no injuries.

24 September 2002 - Despite press reports linking Richie Foran with Preston NE and other clubs Roddy Collins insists that there have been no official approaches. Roddy is renewing his efforts to sign new players and hope to be able to announce at least one new face tomorrow. Other newsGrant Holt plays for Barrow in their home game against Stalybridge Celtic. Fifa  announce that any player who is sent off must serve an immediate one-match ban with no right of appeal. The only way a player can escape an automatic one-match ban is if the referee later admits a case of mistaken identity or concedes he made the wrong decision. The immediate ban applies for both a straight red card or a dismissal for two bookings. Appeals can only go ahead after the initial one-match ban has been served. Dennis Wise joins Millwall. Iraq condemn the dossier produced by UK Government on Iraqi weapons programmes, offering international arms inspectors access to sites mentioned in it. Worries about the possibility of war in Iraq helped to push the main FTSE share index to it's lowest closing figure since December 1995.

25 September 2002 - Richie Foran appeals to the fans to come back and support United. In tonight's Evening News & Star he asks fans to come through the turnstiles so he Lee Andrews and Stuart Whitehead can stay at Brunton Park.  Other newsThe announcement that Wembley stadium is  to be redeveloped has again been delayed. The cost of the scheme has now risen to £750m, a world record for a national stadium. Craig Bellamy makes a public apology to Newcastle United after being found guilty of head-butting an opponent in the match against Dynamo Kiev. Bellamy received a 3 match ban after UEFA studied evidence of what they felt was a deliberate head butt on Tiberiu Ghioane in the 2-0 defeat in Kiev on 18 September. Foreign Secretary Jack Straw promises MPs a proper vote on  military action against Iraq but warned that this could not happen immediately before military action if the effect of a vote was to give the enemy advance notice of any proposed action.

26 September 2002 - Another day  full of transfer speculation but no signings. John Courtenay posts a message on cufconline assuring fans  that any difficulties  faced in buying out of administration have now been resolved. United's youth team are out of the Youth Alliance Cup, losing 3-1 to Scarborough in the final group match. Carlisle United Official Supports Club will hold a Fans Forum on Tuesday the 1st October at 7.00pm in Brunton Park's Sunset Suite. John Courtenay, Roddy Collins and a number of players will be available to answer questions at the event. Other news - UEFA has launched an investigation into allegations of racial abuse, particularly against Thierry Henry, during Arsenal's Champions League tie against PSV Eindhoven. Graham Simpson takes over from Sir Elton John as chairman of Watford. Lord Archer is being moved to a closed prison after breaking the rules by attending a lunch party during a home visit. The controversial Sangatte refugee camp in northern France will close to new entrants on 15 November and be completely empty by April. Two Palestinians are killed in an Israeli air strike in Gaza City.

27 September 2002 - United travel down to Bournemouth for the match at Dean Court. The three transfer listed players are all in the squad. The game against Bournemouth requires a ticket but these can be purchased on the day from their ticket office. Other news - Three directors at Kilmarnock resign. The news comes after police launch an investigation into alleged irregularities  in the club's half time draw. In the Ryder Cup Europe lead  by one at the end of the first days play. Sri Lanka beat Australia by seven wickets to book their place in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy where they will face India. The head of England's exams watchdog has been sacked, even though the Tomlinson inquiry into this summer's A-level grades concluded he had done nothing wrong. A prison warder resigns after it emerged he broke the rules by having lunch with Lord Archer during the disgraced Tory peer's day release from jail. Hundreds of people are feared dead after a Senegalese passenger ferry sinks off the coast of Gambia in a violent storm.

28 September 2002 - United lose to Bournemouth 3 -1. Foran is to undergo tests for a suspected broken cheek bone after a  receiving a foot in the face in the match. Michael Taylor a former trainee at Blackburn makes his debut for United playing at centre back. John Courtenay confirms that  he has transferred a substantial amount of money into the administrators account this week.  He further confirms that he his five year plan has not changed. Other news Ex United player Steve Soley makes it 4 goals in three games as Southport win 3-0 against 9 men Dagenham and Redbridge.  In the Ryder Cup the US win this afternoon's fourballs to level the Ryder Cup at 8-8 going into the final day.  Tens of thousands of people have taken part in a protest against military action in Iraq which organisers say was one of Europe's biggest anti-war rallies.  Police say they counted more than 150,000 in the march from the Embankment to Hyde Park in London. Edwina Currie's diaries, serialised in the Times newspaper, make the startling admission she had a four year affair with ex Prime minister John Major before he was promoted to the cabinet.

3 Games Man of the match - no clear winner here, Taylor did well for his debut game, Birch worked hard as a left back.  Murphy didn't get on the pitch until 65 minutes but scored a superb individual goal.  

3 Games comment - We were brought down to earth with a bump this week, more injuries made more enforced changes to the team and some of those playing  were certainly not 100% fit. We can only hope for some of our injured players to get back and get some stability in the team.

30 September 2002 - Richie Foran could be out of action for at least 6 weeks after  it was confirmed he has a broken cheekbone. Danny Naisbitt returns to Barnet at the end of his moth long loan. United will play a friendly against Newcastle on Wednesday 2nd of October at Brunton Park, kick off 7.30pm. The supporters club hold their first meeting  tomorrow night in the sunset suite at Brunton Park. Other news - After Europe's victory in the Ryder Cup captain Sam Torrance keeps his options open as to whether he will stand down from the position ahead of the next event. In cricket India and Sri Lanka share the ICC Champions Trophy after rain again washed out the final in Colombo. Tony Blair is overwhelmingly defeated at the hands of his own conference over the use of private cash to run public services.  In Sweden a man suspected of planning to hijack a plane bound for the UK is freed after prosecutors say the case against him has weakened.
