Adam was born in Carlisle on the 8th of December 1981. He has come through the youth system and last season captained the youth side. Although he has yet to feature in a senior league game he did make 3 appearances in 00/01. His senior debut came in the second leg of the Worthington cup on the 5th of September 2000. He came on in the second half of the home leg against Grimsby Town, replacing Steve Soley, playing his part in the creditable 1-1 draw. Adam played a full match in the first round of the LDV Trophy against Kidderminster. His other appearance came in the third round of the FA Cup against Arsenal when he came on for Hemmings in the 86th minute and must have enjoyed his experience against the premiership outfit.

Despite playing regularly in the reserves and making the bench a number of times Adam didn't get on to the field of play until the last game of the season away at Mansfield. The game was already lost with Mansfield two goals ahead when he came on for Stuart bell in the 68th minute.
