Dessie was born in Dublin on the 10th of April
1981. He started his career, playing schoolboy football for his local
club Cherry Orchard. A scout from Stockport County had followed his progress and
he signed a 3 year deal with County on the 27th of May 1998. Des made just one
appearance playing a full game in Stockport's 2-0 away win over Norwich in
February 1999. The following year saw Dessie back in Ireland playing for
St Patrick's and after a good season in the Irish League he was picked up by
Wimbledon on the 1st of August 2000. Last season saw him loaned out to Cambridge
for a month in August taking part in 3 league games plus a league cup match.
Des came to Carlisle having played very little football and recovering from injury. He trained with the squad working on his fitness before signing for the club on a free on the 25th of October 2002.
We saw glimpses of the quality long passes and ball skills that Dessie can bring to a game but his season was curtailed by a persistent back injury and towards the end of the season he was dropped from the squad after breaking a curfew. Now fit and eager to prove himself, we hope to see the best of this exciting player next season.
