Striker
John joined Carlisle as an apprentice last year after having spells at Rangers and Livingstone youth teams. He made his debut for Carlisle coming on in the 89th minute at Scunthorpe away on the 16th of March 2002. This appearance gives John the record for being the youngest player ever to appear in the first team for Carlisle United at 16 years and 159 days, a record previously held by Rory Delap. Although fans only got to see him for a few minutes many were impressed with his speed and the crosses he put in the box. John's only other appearance came at home against Macclesfield on the 1st of April when he replaced Stuart Bell (who was himself making his debut) in the 75th minute. United won the game 3-2 with an injury time penalty.
John shows a lot of talent for some one so young, one to watch for.

The 2002/03 season saw John just make one appearance for the first team, coming off the bench to replace Marc Nixon in the 55th minute away at Hull on the 14th of September. The game ending in a 0-4 defeat. Next season with a reserve team in place we look forward to seeing more of this talented young striker.
