Michael was born in Newcastle on the 4th of May 1984. He signed for Carlisle as a trainee on the 1st of August 2001. So far has had just one outing in the senior team when he came on for Halliday in the 71st minute, away at Hartlepool on the 29th of September, 2001, in the 3-1 defeat.

Season 2002/03. Michael took a loan spell this season at Workington Reds gaining valuable first team action, finding the back of the net with a hat trick against Bishop Auckland on the 11th of September 2002. On 5th of November he took a further months loan spell, this time at Gateshead. In February 2003 Michael decided to sign for Gateshead until the end of the season.
