Stuart is another local lad who has made the jump into the first team. Born in Carlisle on the 15th of March 1984, he has come through YTS to be offered a 6 month contract from the12th of March 2002. Less than a month later he found himself making his debut for the first team against Macclesfield at home on the 1st of April, playing for 75 mins to be replaced by Slaven in the 3-2 home win. Away at York on the 9th of April Stuart came on for Murphy 15 minutes into the game and settled to his task well helping the blues to a 0-0 draw. Against Plymouth on the 13th of April at home he came on for Allan in the 66th minute, a game lost 0-2 to a high flying Argyle side. He started the last two games of the season Cheltenham at home and Mansfield away and with each appearance Stuart has looked more composed. He has shown his ability to take good corners and certainly won't go missing in any game, another good young prospect.

Season 2002/03. Sadly Stuart was forced to retire without taking part in another game for United. A knee injury in the summer required two operations but it was revealed there was degenerative damage to the cartilage that would only be aggravated by continued sporting activity. Stuart hopes to continue working with the 9-16 year olds at the Centre of Excellence in a coaching capacity.
