Stuart was born in Whitehaven on the 15th of June 1981 and signed as a trainee at Newcastle eGreenC.jpg (50856 bytes) United on the 1st of August 1999.   Stuart initially signed for Carlisle on a months loan from  30th November 2001 then extended the loan for a further two months.  He proved himselfeGreen2C.jpg (49689 bytes) a very classy midfielder, scoring from a  superb free kick against Rushden and Diamonds  in the 3 -1 defeat, away on the 22nd of December. His ability and awareness contributed to the stunning  6-1 demolition of Leyton Orient at home on the 12th of January.  Stu had a point to prove in the  return match  against Rushden and Diamonds on the 22nd of January at Brunton Park, and did so scoring a cracking goal in the 3rd minute and helped guide the team to a 3-0 win. His only other goal for us has to be contender for goal of the season and came against Torquay at home on the 19th of February. Carlisle were already 1 up through a rare goal from Mark Winstanley when Stu surged forward on the left, after  twisting and turning  past Torquay's defenders he found himself one on one with the keeper, turning away he coolly took the ball round the goalie to slot the ball into the open goal. His three month spell at Brunton Park will have gained him valuable experience in first team football, his contribution  to Carlisle United has been exceptional.

Season 2002/03 saw Stuart sign on a years loan with Hull City, much to the disappointment of many United fans. The away game at Boothferry Park in September seemed just to rub salt in the wound with Hull ending the game as 4-0 winners after a big contribution from Green. Rumours persisted that  Stu wanted to play for his home town club but when Hull City turned the loan deal into a permanent signing at the end of December it looked like United had lost their man. Then in February came the news that United had secured his services until the end of the season with the option to make the deal permanent. A lot was expected of the young midfielder on his return. His first game was away at Rochdale on the 22nd of February and although United had to wait until the 63rd minute it was Green that finally broke the deadlock. Good work by Foran fed Russell who, in turn, squared it to Stu who managed to get enough on the ball to poke it past the keeper and into the net, sealing a 1-0 win.  His only other goal came at home against Rushden & Diamonds at home on the 19th of April, the game ending in a 1-2 defeat. In the following week  things turned sour for the Whitehaven midfielder when it was revealed he was still in contact with Hull City at a time when United needed ever player to be focused on saving the Cumbrian's league status. Stu left the club and returned to Hull City where he is expected to see out his contract.
