At what stage did you realise we would be bottom of the league going into the last game of the season? Two minutes after the penultimate Scarborough game had finished.
How did you cope getting through that last week?
Luckily I was incredibly busy getting ready to move back to England from Cyprus so lots of other stuff to think about. However, I sold my car and realised I had no transport to get to the internet café, so had to rely on getting my dads hire car off him - luckily, he was ill on the day - sounds nasty but I was chuffed.Did you hesitate about going to the game?
Aye - expensive, wouldn’t have missed the netcast for the worldHow did you feel as you walked into the net cafe?
Nervous as hellWhen did you here that Peterborough had scored?
Instantly at the Net café at Akrotiri thanks to the netcast.
When the Dobie goal was disallowed, did you feel it wouldn`t be our day?
I didn’t hear about it until just now??????At half time were you optimistic or depressed?
Stressed. I badgered the Cyp on the server terminal because the whole server went down. That meant just snippets on the radio on the way home or find another quickly. When Plymouth scored what were your feelings?
I didn’t know they had as I was trying to find somewhere to watch the webcast. When Brightwell scored how did you feel?
I was on a mountain road with loads of Cyps behind me wondering why I was driving so recklessly. When the 5 live com went to BP I totally forgot where I was. When I regathered I was at the side of a road on the edge of a high cliff. Cyps were beeping their horns at me and I was shitting meself in case the car was over the edge if it overbalanced: “Lads - I’ve got an idea!”At the end of normal time Colin Carter came on the tannoy announcing the Scarborough final score and tried to lift the crowd, what were your feelings then?
N/AWhat were you thinking as we won the corner and Pearson waved jimmy forward? N/A
What was your thoughts when Glass scored?
BBC 1: We’ve heard a rumour that there’s been a goal at Carlisle! Me: What the !*£$ do you mean a !$£&ing rumour? Have we %£?!ing scored? Have they ?%$£ing scored? Which !?£$ing team has %$!” scored you !^%?ing useless bunch of !”£%!%$£.Did you go on the pitch after the game?
Was that on the “pitch “ or on the “piss”? The former no, the latter yes. I phoned the only other person on the island I knew supported Carlisle later on and he was worse than me. I ran upstairs, put 5 live on and heard 6 Carlisle fans phone in while I got pissed and cried. How did you feel after it was all over that day? Exhausted but full of energy - sounds impossible but it isn’t.
Looking back on that day now, how important do you feel that game was?
If somebody had told me that morning that a Carlisle goal was going to be the lead item on Cypriot national tv sport news, I would have asked for some of what they were drinking. The importance of that game can never be overestimated. Priceless, just like the look of the Cypriot newsagents when I bought a copy of everything on the Monday. How many times when engaged in a crack with a footy fan, when you tell them you are a Carlisle fan, how many times do they ask you how you felt that day. Its happened to me loads of times and I never tire of telling the story - and I don't think I ever will.
