HUGHIE  BOYES

How did you cope getting through that last week?   I tried not to think about it too much but you were constantly reminded by Man U and Liverpool morons and other clowns who bask in reflected Premiership glory. I couldn't care less about them or their clubs, Carlisle was what mattered.

Did you hesitate about going to the game?  No hesitation, I'd have crawled the 60 miles there and back.

How did you feel as you walked into the ground?  Apprehensive, I thought this can't happen to us, we're Carlisle , we're too big to be in the conference.  I took a long look at the stands and terracing and thought this might  be the last league game here. Inner feelings of anger that lack of investment by the greedy fat man had brought us to this!

When the Dobie goal was disallowed, did you feel it wouldn't be our day?  I thought it was a perfectly good goal (slight bias).  I thought it wouldn't be our day. Plymouth looked useful, I thought this lot won't roll over.

At half time were you optimistic or depressed?  Neither optimistic nor depressed, just thinking how many would be here to watch Forest Green or Woking.

When Plymouth scored what were your feelings?   That's it we're gone. To let some one run half the length of the pitch, unchallenged, in a match as  crucial as this was unbelievable!

When Brightwell scored how did you feel?  One hundred per cent better but I still thought we'd had it.

At the end of normal time Colin Carter came on the tannoy announcing the Scarborough final score and tried to lift the crowd, what were your feelings then?  I don't know, a feeling I can't explain, knew what we needed but didn't believe it would happen.

What were you thinking as we won the corner and Pearson waved Jimmy forward? I was past thinking anything, lit my 100th fag and prayed God wore a blue shirt!

What was your thoughts when Glass scored?  Gobsmacked! When the keeper parried Dobie's header it seemed like slow motion. I'd watched Jimmy move up, noticed the gap in the middle an no one had picked him up. To see that ball hit the back of the net was a feeling that could not be repeated, EVER.

Did you go on the pitch after the game?  Didn't think of it at first but I saw a lot of people I knew, I just had to be part of it. Even hugged people I didn't know.

How did you feel after it was all over that day?  Drained, disbelief, loved Peterborough!  Didn't want to go home, never known an atmosphere like that apart from 73/74 when we beat Villa and everybody thought we'd gone up.  Wondered what sort of reception the Plymouth fans would have got  had we gone down.

Looking back on that day now, how important do you feel that game was?  Looking back that was probably the most important game in Carlisle's history.  To hear Knighton  say that this must never happen again, I thought he meant it!!  What did he do to change things?  Bring in a manager who hadn't got a clue and some more frees and cast offs.  We must be the luckiest club in history, we did deserve relegation, twice.
