JULIE  HALL

At what stage did you realise we would be bottom of the league going into the last game of the season?  I remember wondering how it had all gone wrong when we kept dropping points with games running out. The game at Scarborough really annoyed me, we were crap.

How did you cope getting through that last week?  I honestly thought it was all over by then. I didn’t think we had much chance with the way we were playing.

Did you hesitate about going to the game?  No, I wanted a Brunton Pastie one last time.

How did you feel as you walked into the ground?  Sick, gutted. It was a very strange situation to be in.

When did you hear that Peterborough had scored?  It was when the roar of the crowd went up. We knew something had happened and it didn’t take long to get spread around.

When the Dobie goal was disallowed, did you feel it wouldn’t be our day?  I spotted that the ref had blown for something straight away. Loads of people were celebrating but my heart sank.

At half time were you optimistic or depressed?  I can’t remember really. I think if anything I’d say that I was numb.

When Plymouth scored what were your feelings?  I couldn’t see us pulling it back after that. It seemed to be the end.

When Brightwell scored how did you feel?  It was great but I still thought it was too late. I couldn’t see us getting two. When they got their goal I had given up the ghost.

At the end of normal time Colin Carter came on the tannoy announcing the Scarborough final score and tried to lift the crowd, what were your feelings then?   I was willing the ball to go into the net. We weren’t really doing much though and things were fairly desperate at the time. I wasn’t bothered about good passing or good goals, I just wanted the thing in the net.

What were you thinking as we won the corner and Pearson waved Jimmy forward?  I really didn’t think it mattered who went up, I couldn’t see us scoring. I really had given up.

What were your thoughts when Glass scored?  I couldn’t believe it. Words can’t describe it. I just saw the net move and started screaming "It’s in, it’s in." I didn’t know it was Glass and didn’t particularly care at the time. All that mattered is that we had won.

Did you go on the pitch after the game?  No, I never do. I don’t agree with it.

How did you feel after it was all over that day?  To be honest I thought – we’ll never be as lucky again. How wrong I was.

Looking back on that day now, how important do you feel that game was?  It’s the most important game we’ve had. If we didn’t win we were gone, unlike the Brighton game where we lost and still stayed up. It would be awful to not have league football for our club.
