ROB SCOTT-BUCCLEUCH
At what stage did you realise we would be
bottom of the league going into the last game of the season? From
about October - I actually thought that we would be further behind than we were
as the team were dreadful.
How did you cope getting through that last week? I didn't have too much
of a problem with it as I had had quite a long time to get used to the idea of
relegation. To a degree, I was quite looking forward to the Conference - I
like seeing new teams and I'll follow Carlisle United in any league.
Did you hesitate about going to the game? No.
How did you feel as you walked into the ground? Although I seem pretty blasé
about it, I was tense. Probably picked up on the atmosphere.
When did you here that Peterborough had
scored? Almost immediately. Big David Atkinson was getting
messages on his pager from his Sky watching brother.
When the Dobie goal was disallowed, did you feel it wouldn't be our day?
My Mobile had fell out of my pocket as I jumped up - I was too concerned
about putting it back together! Seriously, I'm always disappointed when a
Carlisle goal is disallowed when it seemed ok.
At half time were you optimistic or depressed? Apprehensive.
When Plymouth scored what were your feelings? Oh well. That's
that then.
When Brightwell scored how did you feel?
Hopeful.
At the end of normal time Colin Carter came on the tannoy announcing the
Scarborough final score and tried to lift the crowd, what were your feelings
then?
Too late - we've blown it.
What were you thinking as we won the
corner and Pearson waved Jimmy forward? About time too. We'd been
waving him forward for ages.
What was your thoughts when Glass scored?
Who's got time to think at a moment like that? I didn't know who'd
scored - hard to tell in the melee in the Plymouth area. Didn't care who'd
got it anyway. Too busy drinking the scenes and the atmosphere in.
Did you go on the pitch after the game?
No - we watched it all from the back of the East Stand. Somebody had
taken one of the Steward's stools on the pitch and left it there. Someone
else hobbled on to the pitch on crutches and tried to kick it. He fell
over - and so did we, laughing. It seemed to sum the day up. Crazy.
Surreal.
How did you feel after it was all over
that day? Surely it can't happen again!!!
Looking back on that day now, how
important do you feel that game was? Over the many years
that I've followed them, there have been many vitally important games (not all
of which we've played in). This was just another one. I've no doubt
there will be more - some for good reasons, others not. It's part of
following one club, part of the love affair. I'm glad I was there, part of
the Jimmy Glass thing. I enjoyed seeing it on TV - Match of the Day's Man
of the Day, hearing about the coverage worldwide. It'll take some beating
- but it will happen.
