BRIAN SCORES TOP 10 FINISH IN FIRST CAREER LATE MODEL START AT OCS, EARNS THE MIKE'S MOTORSPORTS HARD CHARGER AWARD

Qualifying Time: Did Not Attempt
Start: 22nd
Finish: 10th

Rougemont, NC. On a day when we had planned to only run the 50-lap Limited Sportsman season finale, Brian would also score a top 10 finish in his first career Late Model Stock car start at Orange County Speedway. The Limited Sportsman teams had been notified that they were invited to run in the season-ending 300-lap Late Model event. Two new tires were required, and the options to change carburetors and take off 200 pounds of lead were also available to all teams (Late Model Stock Cars weigh 200 pounds less, and use a 500cfm v. the 350cfm carburetor that is used in Limited Sportsman). Initially, we opted not to start the Late Model race, electing to focus on going for a win in the Limited race.

However, after competing for a win and running so strong in the Limited race, Brian and the team contemplated starting the Late Model race. With less than 20 minutes before the start of the race, we decided to attempt the race. Two new tires were quickly mounted for the start and minor adjustments were made to the car. Knowing that we were at a competitive disadvantage, Brian was focused on simply gaining seat time and having fun. Despite that disadvantage, Brian competed throughout the race with Late Model competitors, including Lee Caruthers (88), Cochran (72), and (74). Brian also battled fellow Limited Sportsman competitors Matt Loftin (07) and Kenny Remington (02) for much of the race. Brian kept the car in one piece throughout both segments of the race, and made his way up to the 10th position by the drop of the checkered flag. Brian was also the top finisher among all of the regular Limited Sportsman competitors.

A special thanks goes to Tommy Peregoy and David Paschal for their assistance in preparing the car for the start and during the halfway break.

BRIAN CREATES ALL THE EXCITEMENT IN ROUTE TO A 3RD PLACE FINISH IN LIMITED SPORTSMAN SEASON FINALE

Qualifying Time: 14.99
Start: 1st(5th)
Finish: 3rd

Rougemont, NC. The number "5" strikes once again. For the fourth consecutive race, Brian has been forced to start from the 5th starting position, despite his qualifying efforts. Beginning midway through the 2006 season, the OCS staff decided that the top six qualifiers would draw for their starting positions in each race. The previous race winner could start no better than 6th, therefore the worst position the rest of the top qualifiers could start would be 5th. Brian turned a fast lap of 14.99 seconds in his qualifying effort, a lap two tenths of a second faster than the next fastest car, earning Brian his 4th pole award of the season.

Due to the draw, Brian would have to work his way through the field quickly to have a chance for the win. He was able to do this, moving up to 2nd midway through the race. On the next restart, Brian had a strong run on race leader Daryl Carver (5). They raced side by side into turn 3, and in an attempt to keep the car from sliding into Carver, Brian spun coming out of turn 4.

Brian had given the race fans plenty of excitement working his way through the field during the first half of the race, and he would have yet another opportunity to do that with only 13 laps to go. He didn't let the fans down during this second attempt either, working all the way back to the 3rd position for yet another 2006 podium finish.

BRIAN CAPTURES THE POLE AND LEADS EARLY IN THE
ORANGE COUNTY - SOUTHERN NATIONAL SHOOTOUT

Qualifying Time: 15.181
Start: 1st
Finish: 10th

The Limited Sportsman Division featured its largest car count yet, 18 cars, in the Orange County – Southern National Shootout. Brian rose to the occasion in his qualifying effort, turning a fast lap of 15.181 seconds to capture the pole position among a very tight field of cars. After the drawing among the 6 fastest qualifiers, Brian was placed on the outside of row one beside Darryl Carver (5).

At the drop of the green flag, Brian wasted no time taking back the first position, gaining the lead out of turn two. Driving the best-handling car he has had all season, Brian pulled out to a 10 car-length advantage over Carver during the early part of the race. A number of early caution periods benefited us early, as the car began to develop a slight push on the longer green flag runs. Carver was able to take over the lead midway though the race, with Brian fading back to second. On each of the remaining restarts, Brian was able to put up a strong challenge for the lead, but was unable to retake the position.

On lap 44, chances for our first win and a good night in terms of the point standings came to an end. The right-front brake caliper locked onto the rotor, ripping the caliper bracket from the spindle and forcing Brian to the pits. We determined that the right-front brake caliper was also the reason that the car faded on the longer runs. As the caliper got hot, it began to stick and pulled the front end to the right, allowing Carver to overtake the lead.

We look forward to returning to Orange County Speedway with a new braking system, as we have found a great balance on the #10 Furniture Mart car. Our next race is scheduled for Saturday, September 2, along with the UARA Stars.

LATE RACE ACCIDENT ENDS IMPRESSIVE RUN FOR BRIAN

Qualifying Time: 15.13
Start: 4th
Finish: 8th

ROUGEMONT, NC. Heading into the 100-lap Limited Sportsman race at Orange County Speedway on May 20, Brian and the team were hoping to turn the season around with a competitive race. In each of the first four events, we were either involved in a number of incidents or struggled with an ill-handling car. After a helpful test session on Thursday morning, we had high hopes for a great finish in the Furniture Mart/NAPA sponsored race.

A best lap of 15.13 seconds placed Brian 4th on the starting grid, a great start for the long race. On the start, Brian immediately jumped to the 3rd position ahead of 2003 track champion Daryl Carver (5). Front row starters Brent Briggs (11) and Timmy Ferrell (3) exchanged positions on several occasions during the first 50 laps, with Brian and Carver following close behind. Daryl was able to challenge Brian on the longer runs, but a number of cautions allowed Brian to cool the tires and hold the position. Later in the race, Ferrell began to fade and Brian was able to put pressure on him for 2nd.

Unfortunately, all hopes of a victory or a podium finish vanished after 70 laps of close competition. Carver made an attempt to pass Brian heading into turn 1, however contact was made and both cars were sent spinning. The two cars locked into a spin, pinning the front of Daryl’s car onto our left-front tire. Although little suspension damage was sustained, we decided to park the car for the night. Considering the bad luck and a DNF already recorded for the season, we have taken a big hit in the point standings. With little to gain, we prevented any further damage by staying in the pits for the remainder of the race.

Despite the disappointment of such a poor finish after competing for a win, we look forward to returning to action for Twin 50-lap races on May 27 at Orange County Speedway.

SURVIVAL WAS THE KEY ON MARCH 18

Qualifying Time: 14.82
Start: 3rd
Finish: 5th

ROUGEMONT, NC. By the second race of 2006, Brian and the team quickly returned to the competitive level that we maintained throughout our rookie season at OCS in 2003. The proper gear selection, in addition to some chassis setup improvements, put the #10 N-Touch Wireless/Furniture Mart Chevy back among the front-runners. Brian’s qualifying lap of 15.81 seconds was fast enough for the 3rd starting position among the 16 competitors. During the early stages of the race, Brian maintained that position while following leaders Justin Snow (7) and Brent Briggs (11) closely. A series of cautions in the middle part of the race caused the car to get tighter late in the race, allowing the competition to challenge Brian on each restart. Contact from Timmy Ferrell (3) on one restart sent Brian from 3rd back to the 7th position, ahead of Matt Lofton (07). Brian was not as lucky after receiving contact from Lofton entering turn 3, spinning to bring out the yellow flag with less than 20 laps to go. After an eventful night, Brian charged back to the 5th position for the finish.

BRIAN SALVAGES A 6TH PLACE FINISH IN SEASON OPENER

Qualifying Time:
Start: 8th
Finish: 6th

ROUGEMONT, NC. Brian’s return to Orange County Speedway for the first time since 2003 was not quite as successful as the team had hoped. After testing well throughout the previous couple of weeks, we had high hopes of competing for a win on opening night. However, an experimental gear selection proved to be the wrong choice. We struggled to find any speed in qualifying, posting a lap good enough for the 8th starting position in the 13-car field. The car handled consistently through the night, but Brian was unable to advance beyond the 6th position throughout the 50-lap race. Brian recovered from a late-race spin, avoiding the spinning cars of Eddie Declue (17) and Matt Lofton (07), to finish 6th overall.
