** Track Qualifying Record - Orange County Speedway Limited Sportsman Division # Winner of the previous race can start no better than 6th in the next race BRIAN SHATTERS THE OCS LIMITED SPORTSMAN TRACK RECORD, FINISHES 2ND IN SEASON OPENER Heading into the 2007 season, our goals were set high as we will be competing with a much newer, more competitive chassis than the car we've been racing throughout the last four seasons. We acquired a 2003 Townsend chassis from Sellers Racing, Inc. last season, and the team has been building it from a bare frame into a complete race car during the last three months. The biggest difference will be the transition from a 3-link rear suspension to a truck arm setup, a combination that most teams have been using for a number of years. The car was not complete until 4:30am on the day of open practice at Orange County Speedway, giving us little time to test the new car. However, we were fortunate to have no major problems during the initial test, allowing Brian to quickly adapt to the new car and giving us a chance to turn a number of laps on the track. We were able to test for two days, the car was handling great, and the times were consistently fast heading into the season opener on March 10. In qualifying, Brian set a new record time at the 3/8 mile oval. His best lap would be 14.42 seconds, over one tenth of a second faster than the previous record set by Justin Snow in 2006. Our luck in the draw would also improve, as Brian selected the 2nd starting position. At the drop of the green flag, Brian and Jerry Hinesly (46) raced door to door into turn 1. Brian would gain an advantage through the center and took control of the lead out of turn 2. The car was on the loose side from the beginning, however Brian was able to stretch out to a comfortable lead during the early laps. Daryl Carver (5) would begin to chase Brian down as our car began to get even looser after a number of laps, and he would overtake the position on lap 19. Brian stayed within a second of Carver the rest of the race, and challenged for the lead after the final restart, but was unable to recapture the lead. Carver would take the season opening win and Brian came home with a strong 2nd place finish. |
