Located about 60KM off the mainland town of Mersing.
Pulau Aur, a small island with 3 other island which are Pulau Dayang, Pulau Lang and Pulau Pinang located in the southern part of Peninsula Malaysia
This island is easily accessible by 4-5 hours boat ride from Mersing, Johor which is easily reach by road from both Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
Mersing is about 4 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur and 3 hours from Singapore. Mersing can be reach by driving via Kluang from Ayer Itam PLUS Interchange or the east coastal road (Jalan Johor Bahru) from Singapore. (note. there is a road contruction about 70km of Kluang - October 29, 2000, for night driving turn off at Felda or Endau Rompin junction)
Because of the distance fromt the mainland, Pulau Aur was able to retain the underwater life intact with minimal damage due to excessive fishing. During monsoon, you will not be able to see much white sand beaches but during non-monsoon season, you can enjoy sun on the long and white sandy beach. To enjoy maximum visiblity, do a morning dive at Rayner's Rock located on th northern east tip of Pulau Dayang.
For rock climers, this could be a good area as they are rock hill around Pulau Dayang as well as a lookalike submarine rock in Kampong Pulau Aur. You can also do a trek to the 1999 Australian fighter bomber crash site on Pulau Aur.
There is a few very good site for novice diver such as the Teluk Meriam, Telok Jawa, Pulau Lang, Channel (Aur Jeti) and crocodile rock as this area are potected from strong currents.
There are a few resort located on this paradise island of Pulau Tenggol. One of the resort is the Dayang Island Resort, which is run by Gerald, a singaporean which has run the place for about 20 years now. This resort also cater for marlin fishing, note diving and fishing do not go along. A 4 days would be excellent for someone to enjoy the sea and sun. For diver, you can make as many dive as you can, as I and my buddy, Tee, manage to log 11 dives on the first 2 days, 5 and 6 respectively (S.A.F.E.)
This place can hold up to 200 person on this island, claim Andy, Sorrento Dive Singapore.
