seek fourth straight Altamont title

Vandalia's
men's fastpitch softball team will begin its quest for a fourth straight
championship at the Altamont Fourth of July Tournament at noon on Saturday.
The tournament, which runs this Saturday and Sunday and
concludes June 30 and July 1, will be held at Gilbert Park in Altamont.
The Freight open play against Koerner Miller Lite of
Teutopolis. The winner plays again at noon on Sunday against the winner of
Saturday's game between Nokomis Bud Light and Franny's Tavern of Springfield.
The loser returns Saturday evening to play at 6:30 p.m. against Nokomis or
Franny's.
Overall, 16 teams are competing in the double-elimination
tournament, which is sponsored by Altamont Softball Inc., the city of Altamont,
Altamont Lions Club and Koerner Distributing.

The Freight were scheduled to
prepare for the tournament by playing Teutopolis KC's/Bud Select on Wednesday
in Vandalia, but that doubleheader was canceled.
Vandalia enters the tournament with a 15-4 record,
claiming the championships at the Kelso Klassic and the Virginia Tournament
already this summer.
