The sniper

You are the sniper.  You need to know how to do you job.  You need the right equipment, and you need to do the right things, but what is behind all that?  You!  It is more than the equipment, the field training, and the technical aspect of the job.  You need to have the mental ability to sit in one spot, for an hour, with a bug crawling up your neck, and you can't move!  You have a mission, a mission cast in stone, and your whole reason for being a sniper is to get the job done.  When your commanding officer sends you on a mission, he acts as if the mission is allready a success.  This is the kind of trust you have to be capable of being worthy of.

As a sniper, you have to have a lot of self control.   If your sitting in one spot for a long time, you will get tempted to move, or to let your guard down.  A sniper can't.  His resistance must be bullet proof.   You have to have your mind set straight.  You have a mission.  You are not to be a sniper for thirty minutes, then be something else.  A sniper must be dedicated.  This may be very boring, or very exciting.  For a while it will probably be very boring, unless you are deployed to a hot spot, where there is a lot of enemy activity.  But you won't be sorry when the enemy come into range!

Here is what is says about a sniper on the occupations page.

SNIPER
Difficulty-very difficuly
Most desired trait-PATIENCE

The sniper is one of the most difficult jobs to do, if done right. It is both boring and exciting. To be a sniper you have to pretty much have experience. That is the key.
First, your weapon. You have to have a sturdy, efficient weapon that has excellent range. I hear a lot of people say that the CPS weapons make good sniper guns. This may be true, say for the 1000. A powerful XP or the Super chargers make good medium sniper guns. The Super charger 500 and 600 would be an excellent choice, because you could fire a decent amount, and then if you had to, you could get up and run. Besides they are both unmatched in reliability. You have to trust your weapon, because it accomplishes your job and may save your life. Without your gun you will surely fail, unless you run up behind your enemy and steal his gun, but I wouldn't wanna try that. You must take care of your gun because you depend on it. Know your gun, know it well, and respect it.
As for you, you have to be SSSSIIIILLLEEENNNNTTT-If you are a sniper, you have to be dedicated to not talking, CERTAINLY NO RADIOS!! Silence and patience are of most importance. You have to have a good sense of a place where you can blend right in, using highly efficient camo, the whites of your eyes the only part left unmasked. Once you find a spot, stay put. Being a sniper requires the absolute best patience, your goal is for the enemy to be knocked completely off guard, and then stay hidden and un-found. This requires an excellent gun, good training and a LOT of waiting. If you have to wait to hours and nobody have come yet, you will probably start to think that you're ditching your buddies by staying out of the action, so you have to be TOTALLY dedicated to what you are doing. Besides, if after two hours have passed, and no one has come yet, YOU ARE STILL ALIVE. Perhaps more than others could say. If you picked the right spot and wait long enough, somebody will come.
Practice is good too. Testing different guns, camo patterns, and shooting stances all help in training. Walk around the area where you are going to fight before the battle and scope out the area. One time I searched out the absolute perfect spot. Nobody would ever find me, guarenteed. And that spot was wide open. It was at the end of the block, around the corner of a house, and for some reason nobody EVER went that far, so it was an excellent resting spot and such. Another thing you could do, not just for sniper, is do the same thing, but at NIGHT, and notice the lights, shadows, dark places, and areas nobody would think to look, and if they look there anyways, they wouldn't be expecting anybody, so you could get the jump on them.
Experience is the best teacher, so if you want to be a sniper, try it. And keep trying.

As you can see, being a sniper is hard, but it is also really fun.  There is a rush when an enemy come into range and you know you can't miss.  If you feel you have enough self control, maturity, and experience, and you want to become a sniper, give it a try!
