Gretzky Memorial Cup Champions Revisited
The Gretzky Memorial Cup has been around now for 4 years. Many rules have changed over the years in a constant attempt to keep the competition fair and fierce, and I know that year 5 will likely be one of the best yet. Here is a brief re-cap of the champions over the last few years.
Season #1
There were two winners that year, 1st overall in regular season play, and 1st overall in playoff competition.
Season Win = Stratford T-Wolves (John)
Playoff Win = Peter’s penguins (Peter)
Season #2
There were two winners that year, 1st overall in regular season play, and 1st overall in playoff competition.
Season Win = Big City Blues (Dan)
Playoff Win = Proudfoot Pirates (Bryden)
Season #3
There were three winners this year, as Shawn tried a format of two separate divisions, gold and silver, as well there was still the playoff competition as well. There was some controversy this year though, as Brock was higher than John but in a different league…. format changed the next season.
Season (Gold) Win = Brown Eyed Susan’s’ (Shawn)
Season (Silver) Win = Stratford T-Wolves (John)
Playoff Win = Stratford T-Wolves (John)
Season #4
This was our last season completed and there were again three winners. However, there was no divisions and the 1st and 2nd place overall for season play were winners, as well the playoff competition.
Season (1st) Win = Stratford T-Wolves (John)
Season (2nd) Win = Brocks’ Cocks (Brock)
Playoff Win = Big City Blues (Dan)
In summary, Stratford T-Wolves have 4 victories, Big City Blues have 2 victories, and the Brown Eyed Susan’s, Cocks, Pirates and Penguins all have 1 victory.
The Sailors, Bulldogs and P-Jays are all still in search of their first Win. Will this be the year? Probably will be for a couple of them, but stay tuned.
