PF Marc Walters scored 21 of his game-high 25 pts in the 2nd half and added 10 rebs to help Glendale to a 77-65 win over Citrus at Verdugo Gym Saturday. Walters' 9 pts early in the 2nd half helped the Vaqueros open a 50-30 lead with 14 mins left and Citrus never got closer than 10 pts after that.
All three frontline starters for Glendale had big nights. C Fabien Leon finished with 15 pts and 11 rebs while SF Kevin Krose totalled 14 pts and 11 rebs for the Vaqs. Each nailed 3 threes, as did SF Germaine Dixon, who scored 11 pts on 4 of 5 from the field off the bench.
It took almost the entire first half for Glendale to break away from a pesky Citrus squad. Late in the 1st half, the game was tied 20-20 before Glendale scored 9 of the 1st half's last 10 pts to take a 29-21 halftime lead. Then the 21-9 Walters-led spurt to open the 2nd half put Glendale in command.
Citrus was led by remarkable PG Walter Bratton, who had 15 pts, 4 asts and 7 steals for the Owls. Bratton, who has just one hand, scored 11 of Citrus' 20 pts in the 1st half to keep them close. Backup PG Donte Holden added 8 pts (including 2 threes), 5 asts and 4 steals.
Citrus played much of the game with both Bratton and Holden in the game, and the Owls managed 15 steals and forced 21 Glendale turnovers. However, Citrus shot just 37% for the night and were manhandled on the boards. SF Damon Conway tied Bratton for team honors with 15 pts and had a team-best 5 rebs.
With the win, Glendale climbs to 12-15 on the season. The loss drops Citrus to 4-22.
