2010 Southern California CC Showcase
Event Summary

There were 32 teams involved in the 2010 Southern California Community College Showcase, July 30th & 31st at Azusa Pacific University.

I managed to see 30 of the 32 teams, missing only the OC Pride (a club team) and Rio Hondo (which I covered at the Charger Summer Showcase earlier in July).

And of course, all these opinions are my own. I've roughly followed the stats and results, but there is some subjective judgment involved as well. I've also finessed some of the positions so the most deserving players are recognized. I realize there's plenty of room for disagreement, but this is what I think...

Most Outstanding Player:

Kyisean Reed, Antelope Valley. Back after a year getting his schoolwork on track, the 6-6 Reed is a multi-talented frontliner who posted the weekend's only double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds in AVC's 47-34 win over Compton. Those numbers may not be a gaudy as the 32-point, 24-rebound performance in a HS All-Star game a couple of years ago, but they do show how good he can be...and, in this case, he was.

Most Outstanding Team:

Santa Monica: The Corsairs went 4-0 with wins over Irvine Valley, Saddleback, Los Medanos and Sequoias, good teams from throughout the state. The biggest difference between SMC this year and last is the addition of PG A.J. Harris, but the continued development of DeShawn Stephens, Matt Sinclair and Everett Brown have been key as well. The Corsairs have been on the rampage this summer, and figure to be among the top teams in SoCal this upcoming season.
