There were 24 teams involved in the 2010 Charger Summer Showcase, July 9-10-11 at Cypress College.
I managed to see 19 of them in a total of 11 games, including several teams twice. At least a couple of teams I didn't get to see - Grossmont and Long Beach - are now my top proirities for the shootout at Azusa Pacific at the end of the month.
And of course, all these opinions are my own. I've roughly followed the stats and results, but there is some subjective judgment involved as well.
I also finessed some of the positions to make sure the most deserving players are recognized. Only players/teams I saw were eligible, and the Honorable Mention selections are listed alphabetically (by guards, forwards & centers).
Most Outstanding Player:
James Ennis, Team Pirate (Ventura). The 6-8 forward transfers in from Oxnard, and had an amazing game vs. Mira Costa with 19 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks and 5 turnovers. He's long been regarded as extremely talented, but somewhat enigmatic and prone to mistakes. That makes his final number of the day all the more impressive: zero turnovers.
Most Outstanding Team:
Citrus: When I saw them, they beat Orange Coast (usually a competitive team, especially in the summer) by a whopping 42 points. Reportedly they beat Santa Barbara by an even wider margin the next day. Against OCC, they shot 68.5% from the floor while holding the Pirates to 29.3%, and all 12 Citrus players scored. It's hard to be much more impressive than that.
