PF Sean Starkey and PG Justin Nguyen each had 5 threes as host Cypress (5-8) routed LA Harbor (2-10) Wednesday night.
Harbor led 8-3 early on, but the Chargers tied the game at 8 aftr a putback basket by SF Eric Butler and took a 10-8 lead when Ctr Devon McDonald scored on a feed from Nguyen. Harbor tied it at 10 on a basket by SF Jonathan Williams.
After that, it was all Chargers. Cypress pushed the lead to 21-12 after a Nguyen 3-pointer with 10:52 left in the first half. The lead reached double digits at 25-14 on a pair of free thorws by PG DuWayne King with 7:17 left in the first half. A steal & basket by SG Khalif Ford made it 27-14 moments later, and a basket inside by King made it 29-14.
By halftime, the lead was 18 at 42-24, and a basket by Boyd in the opening moments of the second half pushed the margin to 20 at 44-24. Back-to-back threes by Starkey and Nguyen made it a 30-point game at 58-28 with 14 minutes left. The margin reached 38 at 73-35 after Nguyen's 5th three of the night with about 10 minutes remaining.
For Cypress, Starkey led the way with 22 pts. Nguyen came off the bench to have 15 pts and a game-high 4 asts. Butler had 13 pts on 6-for-6 shooting. And Ford had 11 pts and an amazing 7 steals.
For Harbor, Ctr Charles Jenkins had a strong game with game-highs of 23 pts and 13 rebs. But the only other scorers in double figures were SG Brandon Davis (12 pts, 3 threes) and Williams (10 pts, 7 rebs, 3 asts).
