PG Trevor Ray had 26 pts and 6 asts to lead Shasta (5-9) to a 83-73 win over Feather River (6-8) in a showdown of Golden Valley Conference teams in the Consolation Final of the Kris Kringle Classic Saturday afternoon in Santa Rosa.
Shasta overcame a 5-point halftime deficit, taking a 39-38 lead after threes by Ray, SF Dylan Nelson and SG Troy Duenas early in the second half. Feather River came back to tie the game at 41, but then Shasta went back in front and led the rest of the way. A driving lay-up by Ray pushed the Knights’ lead to 10 at 69-59 with 6:40 left.
Feather River made a late run to cut the margin to 5 points at 78-73 after a three by PG Ariece Perkins with 48 seconds remaining. But a pair of free throws by Nelson with 33.1 seconds left, a single free throw by Ray with 22.8 seconds left and a pair of free throws by Ctr Derek Oestrieker with 11.7 seconds left clinched the win for Shasta.
Ostrieker just missed a double-double with 17 pts and 9 rebs, as did Alex Ward, who had 13 pts, 9 rebs, 5 asts and 4 steals. Nelson had a strong game as well with 13 pts, 5 rebs, 6 asts and 2 steals.
For Feather River, SF Equs Darby led the way with 15 pts. Perkins had an excellent game with 14 pts and 6 asts. PF Jourdain Scoubes, who recently committed to Utah Valley State, had 6 pts and 9 rebs while battling foul trouble. And UC Irvine-bound Ctr Zach Atkinson had 8 pts, 6 rebs, 3 asts, 3 blocks and 2 steals.
