West Valley (10-2) shot 62.5% with 8 threes in the second half to get past Yuba (5-7), 93-84. SG Lamarr Hunt led the Vikings with 19 pts including 6 threes. PG Drew Sanchez had 9 pts and 12 asts while PF Kevin Fleming had 14 pts and a game-high 12 boards. And they weren't alone: SF Ivan Elliott (15 pts, 6 rebs) and Ctr Ken Alexander (17 pts, 7 rebs) also put in strong performances.
The game turned in the middle of the second half as Hunt nailed a pair of threes to give WVC a 58-54 lead with just under 11 minutes left. Until then, neither team had been able to build a 4-point lead in the second half. Then Elliott scored on a putback, knocked down a free throw and scored a basket on a feed from Sanchez after a steal to make it 65-56. Fleming then drilled a pair of threes, sandwiched around another three from Hunt, as WVC built a 79-67 lead. A thunderous slam by Alexander capped the rally, giving WVC an 81-67 lead with just over 4 minutes left.
Yuba tried to rally, mostly behind PG Jon Sheets, but were never able to threaten the Vikings. Sheets had a strong game with 26 pts (4 threes) and 9 asts. SG Mychael Henry added 18 pts while Ctr Zach Andrews had 16 pts and 11 boards.
