San Jose 65, Ohlone 58

SG Tristan King scored 20 pts and PF Reggie Smith registered a double-double as host #4 San Jose (10-1) topped #10 Ohlone (7-7) in a Coast Conference crossover game December 18th.

SJCC jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the early going and led wire to wire, but the game was close all the way. A three by PF Andy Bocian brought Ohlone to within a point at 22-21 after an ugly first half in which each team shot just 27% (7-for-26) from the floor. And a layup and a pair of FTs by PG Aaron Parker had the Renegades within 3 at 48-45 with 4:15 left in the game.

But the Jaguars went with a small lineup and pushed the pace in the second half, shot 64% after intermission, and they never lost their lead. And finally, in the last few minutes, they were able to pull away a bit. A three by King, a basket by SF Julian Conyers, a layup by Ctr Jamal Harris pushed SJCC's lead to 55-45, and then with 2:19 left Parker fouled out. Ohlone never threatened after that.

King made 7 of 8 shots from the floor, including a pair of threes, and also grabbed 9 rebs. Smith scored 10 pts and added 10 rebs, helping SJCC outrebound the Renegades, 42-27. Harris had a strong inside game with 7 pts, 8 rebs and 3 blocks. And the reserve backcourt of PG Jay Doss and SG D.J. Cyphers (with King moving to SF) really came through for the Jaguars in the second half. Doss went 4/4 from the floor and had 4 asts, while Cyphers had 7 pts (including a three) and 3 asts. And the Jags scored 43 points against a tough Ohlone defense.

Ohlone was led by SF Chris Burnett with 18 pts (4 threes) and Bocian with 17 (3 threes). Parker had 9 pts and 4 asts, while Ctr Elijah Grant had 6 pts, 10 rebs and 2 blocks. But the Renegades shot just 35% from the floor and were outrebounded by 15.
