Napa Valley 69, Sierra 61

SF Roosevelt Smith had 15 pts and six other players scored at least 8 pts as Napa Valley (6-4) edged Sierra (4-5), 69-61, in the first round of the 43rd Annual Delta Holiday Tournament Friday afternoon in Stockton.

Napa Valley took a lead on a free throw by SF Lee McCain midway through the second half, and held a slim advantage the rest of the way. Sierra got within four points after a 3-pointer by PG Darell Gordon with 1:20 left and trailed by 5 in the final minute before Smith made four free throws and McCain made two to seal the win for the Storm.

A driving lay-up by SG DeAndre Clark brought Napa Valley within a point at 35-34 at the break.

The lead continued to go back and forth in the second half until McCain's free throw broke a 47-47 tie with 10:12 left. Then Smith scored after a pass from PG Luigi Valencia and Clark scored on a putback to make it 52-7. Sierra got a 3-pointer from Kahlon to make it 52-50, but the Storm pushed the lead to 7 at 57-50 on a putback basket by PF Gage Harty and to 8 on a Smith 3-pointer, the largest lead for either team in the game.

Sierra got within four points at 61-57 on a 3-pointer by Gordon with 1:20 left. Harty scored for Napa Valley to make it 63-57, and Gordon made one of two free throws for Sierra to make it 63-58 with 55 seconds left.
