SF Anthony Simi had 15 pts, 8 rebs and 7 asts as #13 San Joaquin Delta (7-3) had little trouble with Butte (4-5) in a 66-44 win Friday evening in the first round of the 43rd Annual Delta Holiday Tournament in Stockton.
Butte trailed just 12-10 early on when Delta got a 3-pointer from Ctr James Lake, a putback basket from PG Calvin Otiono and a 3-pointer from SG Phil Thomas to push the lead to double digits at 20-10. Ctr Josh Duckens scored consecutive baskets later in the half to push the margin to 15 at 28-13, and the Mustangs scored four points in the final 1:29 of the first half to lead by 19 at 38-19 at the break.
Simi scored on a driving lay-up early in the second half to push the Delta lead to 21 at 42-21. Butte never got closer than 15 points the rest of the way.
In addition to Simi, the top performers for Delta were Duckens, with 13 pts, 6 rebs and 4 steals, and Otiono, who had 10 pts, 4 rebs and 3 asts. Thomas had 9 pts and 4 asts, and Lake had 9 pts, 4 rebs and 3 asts.
For Butte, PG Anthony Carter had 10 pts, 3 asts and 2 steals. But nobody else had more than 7 points and the Roadrunners shot just 34% from the floor for the game.
