#1-ranked Fresno (10-0) put on a ferocious display of their trapping and shooting game in the first half, taking an 82-41 halftime lead over Gavilan (1-8) in a first-round game at the Chabot Tourney Dec. 19th.
Fresno hit 15 threes, had 14 steals and forced 27 Gavilan turnovers in the first half. Gavilan entered intermission hitting 67% from the floor...and trailing by 41 points! For the game, Fresno had 20 threes, 30 steals and forced 46 Gavilan turnovers though Fresno didn't press after halftime, and reserves played most of the second half.
SG Jason Walberg led the way with 30 pts (7 threes), 6 asts and 3 steals. SG Adam Wall had 22 pts (6 threes). PG Tyrone Jackson had 12 pts, 10 asts and 4 steals. F Harry Holmes had 7 steals. PF Chad Thornton-King (12 pts, 5 steals) and SG Jon Black (14 pts incl. 3 threes) were the top reserves.
Gavilan shot 58.5% from the floor for the game, and actually scored the game's first 4 pts. Just 4 minute in, Gavilan trailed by only a point at 11-10. But by the 7-minute mark, Fresno had a 35-14 edge and it just got more one-sided from there.
Gavilan was led by PF Jesus Estrada, who had 16 pts and 6 rebs. Ctr Tim Goode had 13 pts, all in the first half. SF Jon Morrison had 9 pts and 6 asts, while SF Jimmy Cheatum added 8 pts and 5 asts in a reserve role.
