PG Jordan Cannon had 20 pts and 9 asts, and PF Chris Ferguson had a double-double with 13 pts and 13 rebs as Feather River (5-9) topped American River (2-11), 77-63, in the 3rd Place game of the 33rd Annual Kris Kringle Classic Saturday evening in Santa Rosa.
Feather River led the entire second half after holding a 36-34 lead at the break, but didn't pull away until the final few minutes of the game. ARC trailed by just 2 points at 57-55 before Feather River finished the game on a 20-8 spurt.
American River began the game with a 5-0 run, and the lead changed hands several times in the first half before Feather River took the 2-point edge into intermission. And Feather River pushed its lead to 8 several times early in the second half before American River closed the gap to just 2 points at 57-55 on a spectacular putback dunk by SG Bracin Walker.
But after that, Feather River pulled away, pushing the lead into double digits at the first time on a jumper by SG Willie Bell with 1:15 left. Even an unexpected interruption - the fire alarm - couldn't stop the Eagles in the final minute as play continued amidst the noise.
Cannon and Ferguson led the way for FRC, and SF Larry Howard also had a big game with 17 pts, 6 rebs and 5 asts. Howard was named to the All-Tournament team.
For ARC, Walker had 16 pts, 6 rebs and 2 steals. PF Terome Landers had 12 pts and a team-high 7 rebs, and Ctr Kevin Freeman had a strange-looking but productive line of 9 pts, 6 rebs and 8 asts.
