Diablo Valley 75, Alameda 55

#10 Diablo Valley (8-4) got off to a spectacular start and romped to a 75-55 win over Alameda (2-7) in the consolation final of the 3rd Annual West Valley Holiday Classic Sunday afternoon at Mission College in Santa Clara.

DVC began the game by hitting 7 of its first 9 shot, jumping out to a 17-4 lead in the first 5:55, and the Vikings didn't commit a foul or a turnover in that time. A 3-pointer by SF Benji Arvizu midway through the half gave DVC a 22-5 lead, and the margin never got below 14 points the rest of the game.

In that remarkable first half, DVC shot 52% from the floor. More amazing, the Vikings had just 2 turnovers, one of which came on a shot clock violation, which was completely understandable given that there were no courtside shot clocks in the gym.

DVC led by 18 points at halftime, and Alameda only narrowed the gap as close as 14 points in the final four minutes.

PG Dan Daviess had 15 pts, 7 asts and 4 steals to lead the way for DVC. Arvizu had 13 pts, SG Brandon Thomas had 13 and Ctr Tyler Phillips had 12 pts and 8 rebs. PF Brandon May had 8 pts, 9 rebs and 6 asts, and was named to the All-Tournament team.

For Alameda, SF Peter Kortman had 10 pts plus 3 rebs, 2 asts, 3 steals and 3 blocks. SG Gonzalo Juarez had 9 pts and PF Mico Johnson had 8. PG Nate Brown came off the bench for 6 pts and team-highs of 4 asts and 4 steals.
