In the third place game, Delta (9-3) held off a stubborn Modesto (6-7) squad in a rare intra-regional rivalry game. Ctr Kavin Young led the way with 26 pts and 8 rebs, while PG Chris Walker added 15 pts and 7 asts. SG Sam Kirby had 13 pts (4 threes).
Delta took control of the game on a 12-0 run midway through the second half that left Delta ahead, 53-45. A pair of threes by Kirby started it off, and Young followed that up with 2 FGs and 2 FTs. Delta still had a seemingly safe lead at 73-67 with just over 30 seconds left before Modesto rallied one last time. But Matt McClellan's three at the buzzer made the final score look a little closer than the game was; Modesto never had the ball with a chance to take the lead.
Modesto was led by PG John Davis, who had 28 pts (4 threes) and PF Bobby Cole (13 pts, 8 rebs). McClellan finished with 11 pts in a reserve role.
