Antelope Valley 79, Riverside 77

Ctr Wendell White led Antelope Valley (9-4) past Riverside (9-4), 79-77, in a tough, emotional battle. White moved to the middle for the game, taking the place of flu-ridden Jonathan Holland, and finished with 28 pts and 11 rebs.

Riverside led 69-65 with about 4 mins left before Wendell White spurred an AVC run with a pair of assists and a layup, giving the Marauders a 71-69 lead with under 3 minutes left. His three moments later gave AVC a 74-70 edge, and his layup with 1:05 left made it 76-70.

A three by SG Kyle Myrick brought Riverside to within 3 at 76-73 with 57 secs left. Myrick was fouled on the play, but missed the ensuing free throw. When AVC got the ball back, Wendell White was fouled immediately and made 1 of 2 FTs, making it 77-73. RCC's SG Tyrone Marshall then drew a foul on the Tigers' next possession, and he sank both FTs to make it 77-75 with 23 secs left. When AVC got the ball back, Wendell White was again fouled, and again he made 1 of 2 FTs, making it 78-75 with 20 secs remaining.

A layup by PG Adrian Walton with 12 secs left got Riverside to within a point at 78-77, and AVC's SG Mike Webb was fouled when the Marauders inbounded the ball. Webb made just 1 of the 2 FTs though, giving Riverside 10 seconds to make up the 2-point deficit. When Riverside inbounded the ball, Walton got it and drove towards the basket, much as he had moments earlier on his layup. But this time the ball rolled out, giving AVC the win.

In addition to Wendell White, other AVC standouts included his brother Walter, who had 13 pts and 5 rebs before fouling out with 23 secs left. SF Ollie Bradley had 16 pts and SG Mike Webb had 15 pts.

Riverside was led by Myrick, who had 23 pts, 5 rebs, 6 asts and 3 steals. Walton had 18 pts and a game-high 8 asts. Marshall added 11 pts and 4 asts. Ctr Mo Camara had 8 pts, 11 rebs and 4 blocks before fouling out with 33 secs left.
