SG Jonathan Pickert scored 27 pts and PG Will Schalich made 2 FTs with 2 seconds left to give SBCC a win in the opening game of the Hancock tourney. Schalich's free throws came 3 seconds after Cerritos Ctr Stanley Gill made 2 FTs to give the Falcons a 1-point lead.
It was an ugly win for SBCC, which shot just 27% from the floor. But the shooting of Pickert, who had 5 threes, and a strong performance from Ctr Mike Searle (10 pts, 11 rebs) and the timely free throws by Schalich got the Vaqueros the win.
Gill led Cerritos with 15 pts. PG Sam Hill had 10 pts and 9 rebs. Cerritos had one last chance to win the game, and used a nicely-designed play on the inbounds. The long pass went to Gill at the top of the circle, and while in mid-air he passed to SG Leo Thomas for a last-second shot. But Thomas' attempt bounced off the rim.
