Cuesta (1-10) notched its first win of the season thanks in large part to a splendid performance from SF Mecklin Davis. Davis scored a game-high 25 pts, grabbed 7 rebs and made 2 key defensive plays in the final 24 seconds for the Cougars.
Cuesta led most of the game, and was clinging to a 58-56 lead when Davis stole the ball with 24 seconds left. SG Daniel Hestehauge made 2 FTs to make it 60-56. But then Reedley's Lionel Ramos scored on a putback with 6 seconds left to make it 60-58. And when Davis made just 1 of 2 FTs moments later, the door was left slightly ajar for Reedley to tie the game. However, when the Tigers tried to get up court, Davis knocked the ball away from PG Lino Velasquez to prevent Reedley from getting a final shot away, giving the Cougars the win.
Hastehauge had 14 pts for Cuesta. PF Sophoeun Oeun led Reedley with 23 pts (4 threes) and 7 rebs. Velasquez added 14 pts, 5 asts and 3 steals.
