Ctr James Sandoval had 25 pts and 9 rebs to lead Monterey Peninsula (10-7) to a 73-58 win over Santa Rosa (8-8) in the second semifinal of the SJCC Holiday Tournament Friday night at Evergreen Valley College.
MPC led all the way, starting the game on a 21-4 run, leading by 15 at halaftime and opening a 21-point lead midway through the second half against a Santa Rosa team that was missing three regulars due to injury.
Still, it was an impressive performance by Sandoval and MPC. Sandoval made 10 of 12 shots from the floor en route to his game-high 25 pts. Ctr Denarrio Tatmon came off the bench to provide inside muscle and had 12 pts plus 7 rebs. SG Jermaine Carter chipped in with 10 pts, PF Theo Jackson had 6 pts and a game-high 10 rebs, and PG Adrian Hernandez had 6 pts and a game-high 7 asts.
For Santa Rosa, SF Darius Foster led the way with 16 pts and 6 rebs. PG Robert Ford came off the bench to add 12 pts and a team-high 4 asts.
