SF Wendell White scored 25 pts to lead #4 Antelope Valley (11-4) past host Canyons (8-4) in the championship game of the Cougar Holiday Classic at COC. Wendell White scored 71 pts in the three games of the tournament.
The final game was a one-sided affair as AVC jumped out to an 18-2 lead in the game's first 6:11. COC rallied to cut the deficit to 18-12 in the next 3 minutes, but another AVC run made it 30-12 with 7 mins left in the half. By halftime the lead was 20, and AVC coasted the rest of the way. On the afternoon, the Marauders shot 61.5% from the floor.
Other standouts included PG Mike Webb, who had 10 pts (2 threes) and 2 asts and was named tourney MVP. Ctr Jonathan Holland, who missed the first tourney game due to illness, scored 14 pts on 6/8 FGs and grabbed 6 rebs., PF Walter White had a strong all-around game with 7 pts, 9 rebs and 5 asts.
COC was led by SF Carlton Spencer, who scored 15 pts and was named to the all-tourney team. Ctr Andrew Bruckner added 13 pts and 5 rebs. PG Curtis Dunwoody, whose dramatic 3-pointers in the first-round game got the Cougars past LA Trade Tech, had just 2 pts but was named to the all-tourney team for his efforts earlier in the tourney.
