Foothill 72, West Valley 46

The Foothill defense, the backcourt of Jackson & Jackson and the sharpshooting of Ctr Michael Weimer added up to a commanding 26-point win for Foothill (10-7), which blasted host West Valley (7-10), 72-46, in a Coast Conference crossover game Saturday afternoon in Saratoga.

The Owls held West Valley to just 46 points on 32.7% shooting, forced 17 turnovers, and allowed only one Viking to score in double figures.

Meanwhile, the backcourt combination of PG Chris Jackson and SG Humphrey Jackson combined for 21 pts, 16 asts and 14 rebs for the Owls. Humphrey, the less-celebrated Jackson, was the standout in this game with 15 pts, 8 rebs and 8 asts. But Chris did well also with 6 pts, 6 rebs and 8 asts. Add in Weimer's game-high 16 pts, including 4 threes, and Foothill had more than enough offense for the victory.

Foothill began the game with 8-2 run and led wire-to-wire. West Valley closed the margin to a single point at 13-12 midway through the first half, but back-to-back threes by Weimer pushed the Foothill lead into double digits at 23-12 with 5:19 left before halftime. Foothill led by 10 at 33-23 at the break.

To begin the second half, Foothill scored the first 8 points to blow the game open. Another three by Weimer, a free throw by PF Mike Kaufmann and a fast break lay-up by Chris Jackson on a feed from Humphrey Jackson made it 39-23, and a basket by PF Terence Pellum made it 41-23. A driving lay-up by Chris Jackson pushed the margin into the 20's at 49-28 with just under 12 minutes left, and the Owls cruised from there. Chris Jackson, the 5-8 point guard, had a clean block late in the game to bring the crowd to its feet. And a loud putback jam by Pellum, who finished with 10 pts on 4-of-4 from the floor, put an exclamation point on the game for Foothill.

PF Nick Alexander was about the lone bright spot for West Valley, finishing with team-highs of 14 pts, 4 threes and 5 rebs. SF Marseilles Stewart had 8 pts and 4 rebs while brother SG Dominic Stewart had 6 pts and 3 asts for the Vikings.
