Seqouias 65, Moorpark 51

Ctr Bill Borekambi had 18 pts and SG Troy Norris had 15 as #6-N Sequoias pulled away in the second half for a 65-51 win over Moorpark in the Third Place game of the 2011 Gregg Anderson Memorial Tournament at Antelope Valley College.

Seqouias (7-3) held a modest 27-22 lead at halftime, and Moorpark got within four points at 29-25 early in the second half, but after that COS just pulled away. An 18-7 run pushed the margin to fifteen points at 47-32 after a 3-pointer by SG Adrian Pascua and after that the game's outcome was never in doubt.

Moorpark (3-6) played the Giants on mostly even terms in the first half. After COS took an early 9-5 lead, Moorpark rallied to take an 11-9 lead on a jumper by SG Jamal McClerkin. Sequoias took a seven point lead at 25-18 on a 3-pointer by PG Jermaine Dansby with just over two minutes left in the half, and led by five points at the break.

But the Giants gradually pulled away in the second half. A basket and a 3-point play by Borekambi, the latter of which came after a steal by Norris, pushed the margin to double digits at 40-30. A Borekambi putback made it 42-30 less than five minutes into the second half. Then PG Anthony Trammell scored on a putback of his own miss to make it 44-30. The margin eventually reached 18 at 53-35 after a lay-up by SF Chris Dixon.

Borekambi, shifted from forward to center after several injuries to COS big men, made the all-tournament team and finished with 18 pts and 5 rebs. Norris had 15 pts, including a pair of threes, plus 3 rebs, 2 asts and 4 steals. Dixon and PF Marquis Ransom each had 9 pts; Ransom also grabbed a game-high 7 rebs.

For Moorpark, PF Coltrane Powdrill led the way with 16 pts on 7-for-9 from the floor and earned a spot on the all-tournament team. McClerkin had 13 pts including a pair of threes. SF Steven Brodie had 9 pts, all on 3-pointers, before fouling out with 4:35 left.
