#4 Citrus 105, Desert 82

#4 Citrus (11-0) jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first three minutes and romped to a 105-82 win over Desert (6-2) in the first round of the Wells Fargo Holiday Tournament Wednesday afternoon at Riverside College.

Citrus shot 55% from the floor while forcing 30 Desert turnovers and grabbing 19 steals. All thirteen players for the Owls scored, with four reaching double figures.

Desert kept it close for the first ten minutes or so, cutting the margin to 15-12 after Citrus’ initial burst. But the Owls pushed the margin into double digits at 32-21 with just over 8 minutes left in the first half, led by 22 at halftime and opened a 30-point lead five minutes into the second half before cruising to the finish.

SF Buchi Awaji continued his stellar play with a game-high 18 pts on 8-of-14 shooting. PF A.J. Gasporra had 16 including 3 threes, and Ctr Richard Frohlich had 12 pts plus 7 rebs. SG Virgil (JR) Buensuceso chipped in with 11 pts, 6 asts and 3 steals off the bench. And Ctr Troy Payne had 7 pts, a game-high 12 rebs and a team-high 5 steals.

For Desert, PG Antoine Davis led the way with 19 pts, 8 rebs, 5 asts and 5 steals. SF Julius Lang had a huge game as well with 11 pts, 6 rebs, 3 blocks, 5 steals and a game-high 9 asts. PF Jamar Cannon had 17 pts including 5 threes. Ctr Yoram Webb scored 10 pts.
