Canyons 73, Glendale 66

PF Everett Bryson proved it's "better late than never" by scoring 18 pts and grabbing 10 rebs, all in the second half, to lead host COC (8-17) past Glendale (11-16).

Bryson, normally a starter for the Cougars, was benched for the first half for COC.

Some hot early shooting from SG Matt Nelsen, who finished with a game-high 22 pts, helped COC take a 20-14 lead midway through the first half. But then came a long dry spell for COC, and they scored just 2 pts in the final 10 minutes of the half. After shooting just 27% from the floor in the half, they trailed at intermission, 32-22.

Bryson entered just over a minute into the second half and made his presence felt right away, scoring on a turnaround and drawing a 4th foul on Glendale's Marcus Harris. The ensuing FT closed the gap to 35-30.

COC tied the game on a 3-pointer by Ctr David Hungerford with 9:15 left. Hungerford had an excellent all-around game, finishing with 10 pts, 9 rebs and 7 asts.

The Cougars took the lead for good moments later when SF Alex Dunwoody was fouled attempting a 3-pointer, and sank all 3 FTs. That made it 54-53 with 8:44 left. Dunwoody eventually finished with 11 pts, one of 5 Cougars in double-figures. PF Carlos Escoto tossed in 10 pts.

Glendale was led by SF Justin Turman's 16 pts, but he finished just 6 of 17 shooting. PF Mark Felder turned in a double-double with 11 pts and 11 rebs. PG Alton Preston handed out 7 asts, but scored just 2 pts and had 6 turnovers, many the result of the tenacious defense by COC's Mike Morales. SG Germaine Dixon had 11 pts and 7 rebs for the Vaqueros.
