2007 Fullcourt Press JUCO Camp Awards

Here are my picks for All-Stars and the Most Outstanding Player from the Fullcourt Press All West JUCO Camp.

These are based on my observations, primarily the stats I kept (though other, more subjective criteria also played a role).

In particular, a player's performance in the Top 20 All-Star game (and, of course, having been selected to the Top 20 game) had a major impact on these awards.

In any case, I chose three teams of All-Stars, an Honorable Mention list and a Most Outstanding Player. So without further delay...the best and the brightest from the camp:

Most Outstanding Player: Donte Smith, PG, Pasadena

Donte was outstanding throughout the camp, and he played a huge role in leading his team to the win in the Top 20 All-Star game. He finished that game with 15 pts, 8 rebs and 8 asts. Also, in one of the camp games, he put together a half that can only be described as "Donte's Inferno": 6 threes and 22 points in the first half of a game his team led at halftime, 59-22. There were players with higher ratings in the camp games, but playing on a loaded Compton Magic team kept the ratings down for all of their players (just so many shots to go around, eh?). And his role in seizing control of the All-Star game after the score was tied in the last two minutes clinched the deal.
