Citrus 55, Antelope Valley 52 (women)

Janae Chamois scored 23 pts and Vanessa Garcia scored 12 pts on four 3-pointers, one of which broke a 44-44 tie with just under four minutes to go, sending Citrus on its way to a 55-52 win over visiting Antelope Valley Wednesday night.

Citrus (11-13, 4-7) jumped out to an early 16-10 lead after back-to-back 3-pointers by Chamois, and led by as many as nine points at 21-12 after a 3-pointer by Garcia in the first half. But that would equal the largest lead of the game for either team.

Antelope Valley (14-11, 7-4) cut the deficit to three points at 21-18 before Citrus pushed the lead back to nine points at 27-18 in the final minute of the first half. Shekinah Broadway scored on a driving lay-up for AVC in the final seconds of the first half to make it 27-20 at the break.

In the second half, Antelope Valley cut the margin to a single point at 29-28 about five minutes into the half, and tied the score when Savannah Johnson scored on a putback with 10:45 left. The Marauders took a 36-34 lead moments later when Brittany Scott scored on a driving lay-up.

The lead changed hands several times after that until Garcia's 3-pointer with 3:50 left gave Citrus a lead it would hold the rest of the way. But the Lady Owls' advantage never reached beyond five points, which came after two free throws by Tyvette White made it 53-48 with 1:24 to go.

Antelope Valley got a driving lay-up from Broadway and a basket by Barbara Pete to get within a point at 53-52 with 40.7 seconds left. Chamois made two free throws for Citrus with 14.6 seconds to go to push the lead back to three. AVC had one last chance to tie, but Scott's 3-point shot in the final seconds bounced off the outside of the rim.

Garcia had 12 pts, all on 3-pointers, and White had 13 pts, including 9-for-9 from the free throw line.
