Six Ventura players scored in double figures and Ventura forced 49 turnovers as the host #8 Pirates (21-4) ran their WSC-North record to 10-0 and clinched its 15th consecutive division championship with a devastating 109-53 win over Allan Hancock (3-21, 2-9).
Threes by Tara Zarate and Perbey Pandac gave AHC a 6-0 lead in the early going, but then Ventura went on a 19-0 run to take control of the game. By halftime, the score was 42-25. Then Rebecca Kolbeck and Shannon Antunez each scored 6 points in the early part of the second half to push Ventura's lead to 25 at 58-33, and from there the rout was on.
Sascha Pack led all scorers with 16 pts, but this was a true team effort. Sheana Triana and Krystal Golden each had 15, while Kolbeck finished with 12. Antunez had 10 plus 7 rebs. And Karla Martinez had an extraordinary overall game with 10 pts, 7 rebs, 7 asts and 5 steals.
Pandac led AHC with 11 pts and a game-high 12 rebs; she posted a triple-double of sorts with 13 turnovers. Natalie Fell came off the bench to score 10 pts. Zarate dished out 7 asts. But the Bulldogs finished with more turnovers (49) than shots taken (42), opening the door to the huge loss.
