Cosumnes River 72, Diablo Valley 64 (women)

Andraquay Quinnine turned in what has to be one of the top performances of the season in California JC women's basketball with 40 pts and 10 rebs, leading #7 Cosumnes River to a 72-64 comeback win over host Diablo Valley Tuesday night in Big 8 Conference action.

"Quay" registered the second-highest scoring total in the state so far this season, and the highest in the North region, but also contributed 10 rebs for an amazing 40-10 double-double. She also had 2 steals and did not commit a turnover.

And Cosumnes River (19-4, 10-1) needed all of her contributions to get the win after falling behind by 15 points in the first half. Diablo Valley (7-14, 3-7) had just 7 players available and used just 6, but took a 32-17 lead with 3:40 left in the first half.

Cosumnes River cut the deficit to seven points at halftime, and tied the game at 40 on a Quinnine 3-pointer with 12:40 left. CRC took a 43-42 lead when Quinnine was fouled attempting a 3-point shot and made all three free throws with 11:46 left.

CRC ended up wiht a 53-48 lead after a 10-0 run with 8:40 left. But DVC responded with a 10-3 run, taking a 58-56 lead on a jumper by Symone Pillors with 5:50 remaining.

Then Cosumnes River went on an 11-0 run, which proved decisive. A driving lay-up by Natalia Gibson gave CRC a 59-58 lead. Then Quinnine made a 3-pointer, her 6th of the game, to make it 62-58. A driving lay-up by Quinnine made it 64-58, and two free throws by Fernandi Espinosa made it 66-58. A single free throw by Brooke Fletcher made it 67-58 with 2:03 left.

Diablo Valley rallied one last time, drawing within 4 points at 68-64 on a steal & lay-up by Joz'lynn Case with 19.5 seconds left. But Espinosa and Quinnine each made two free throws in the final 18.3 seconds to secure the win for Cosumnes River.

Quinnine finished 12-for-21 from the floor with her 6 three-pointers, and was also 10-for-11 from the line for her 40 points. Her 10 rebounds was second on CRC behind Gibson's 13. Espinosa chipped in with 13 pts and 3 asts. Gibson had 7 pts, 13 rebs, 3 asts, 2 blocks and a steal.

For Diablo Valley, Diane Moore led the way with 23 pts, 13 rebs, 3 asts and 3 blocked shots. Aleisha Coulter had 17 pts, a game-high 14 rebs, 2 blocks and 3 steals. Case had 8 pts and a game-high 6 asts.

DVC led by 15 at 32-17 with 3:40 left in the first half. CRC rallied to lead, 43-42, with 11:46 left in the second half. The lead went back and forth after that until an 11-0 run gave CRC a 67-58 lead with 2:03 left. DVC got within 4 with 19.5 seconds left, but Espinosa and Quinnine each made 2 FTs in the last 18.3 seconds left to clinch it for CRC.
