Ctr Tezzaray Banks scored 14 pts and grabbed 7 rebs to lead Cerritos (12-8) past host LA Trade Tech (6-10) in a South Coast Conference game Friday night. Cerritos outscored Trade Tech 17-6 over the last 8-1/2 minutes of the game to overcome a 7-point deficit and claim the win. A pair of FTs by PG Cheo White with 7 seconds left sealed the win for the Falcons.
Each team held at least an 8-point lead at one point in the game. Cerritos took a 21-13 lead midway through the first half on a dunk by PF Harold Fairweather, but after the basket Fairweather was called for a technical foul, which was also his 3rd personal. After he sat down, LATT went on a 9-0 run to take a 22-21 lead. The game was tied at 26 at the half.
In the second half, Trade Tech scored 10 of the first 11 pts of the half and took a 36-27 lead on a turnaround jumper by SF Mark Treadwell. But Cerritos answered with a 9-0 run of their own to tie the game less than 3 minutes later.
After LATT took the 7-point lead with 8-1/2 minutes left, the Falcons went on an 11-0 run to take the lead. The Beavers didn't score again until Demetric Davis' 3-pointer with just over 2 minutes left brought LATT to within a point at 51-50. But a basket and a pair of FTs by T. Banks plus the closing FTs by White put Cerritos in charge once again.
Besides T. Banks, Cerritos heroes included PG White, who finished with a game-high 5 asts in addition to the clinching FTs, PG Matt Reid (6 pts, 4 rebs, 3 asts) and Ctr Leonard Ceja (8 pts off the bench).
LA Trade Tech was led by PG James Derricks' 11 pts. SG Davis, PF Stanton Williams and SF Treadwell each scored 10 pts. Treadwell's 8 rebs were a game high, and he also had a team-best 2 asts.
