Golden West 80, Cypress 72
SF Armand Ivory tossed in 33 pts to lead Golden West (5-12) to an 80-72 win over host Cypress Friday night. Ivory connected on 11 of 16 shots from the floor and 9 of 10 free throws for the Rustlers. PF Darnell Graham added 21 pts and a game-high 9 rebs, while SG Charles Blount scored 14 pts and handed out 4 asts.
Golden West jumped out to a 26-15 lead in the first half, but Chris Booth's jumper at the first-half buzzer tied the score at 34. In the second half, Golden West led most of the way by a narrow margin.
With the Rustlers leading 76-73 with 20 secs left, GW's Beau Roquemore had a chance to ice the game with a pair of free throws. But Roquemore missed both. However, GW's Antonio Whitlock grabbed the rebound, and passed the ball back to Roquemore, who was fouled again with 17 secs left. This time he sank both FTs. After a Cypress miss, Graham grabbed the rebound and was fouled. His pair of FTs with 7 secs left made it a 3-score game at 80-73 and clinched the win for GW.
Golden West shot 55% from the floor on the night, and committed just 8 turnovers.
Cypress lost despite a splendid game from SF Kevin Cook (14 pts, 9 asts, 6 rebs and 3 steals). PG Jason Grier tied Cook for scoring honors with 14 pts, and added 7 asts. Booth had a strong game with 12 pts, 8 rebs and 5 asts.
