Mt. San Antonio 84, Compton 54

Mt. San Antonio (16-10) blew the game open early in the second half to pound Compton (8-12), 84-54. PF Jamaal Smith and PG Reggie Wallace-Harmon fueled a 16-4 run to start the second half, which gave Mt. SAC a 20-point lead. The Mounties cruised the rest of the way.

Compton stayed close early behind the strong inside play of Ctr Chris Foster, who scored 10 of his team-high 12 pts in the first half. It was still 25-23 late in the first half before Mt. SAC pulled away to lead by 8 at the break at 39-31.

Smith led all scorers with 25 pts on 11 of 15 shooting, and grabbed 6 rebs. Wallace-Harmon finished with 23 pts on 9 of 11 shooting and handed out a game-high 6 asts. He also had 9 turnovers, but only 1 after halftime. SF Dino Wilburn had a strong overall game with 11 pts, 5 asts, 3 rebs and 3 steals. And Ctr Adrian Fletcher had a big effort with 14 pts (on 6/7 shooting) plus a team-best 7 rebs. For the game, Mt. SAC shot nearly 60% from the floor.

Foster led Compton with 12 pts and 8 rebs. SG Elton Nesbitt handed out 5 asts, but finished with just 6 pts, and was hounded all night by Damon Knight's defense. Reserve guard Eric Butler had a strong game off the bench for the Tartars with 11 pts.

It was still 25-23 into the last 5 mins of the first half, but it didn't stay close for long. Wallace-Harmon and Smith led a Mt. SAC run that extended the lead to 20 less than 5 mins into the second half, and Mt. SAC cruised from there.
