SF Dallas Townsend scored 31 pts and the Raiders shot 56% from the field as Moorpark (12-10) topped host LA Pierce (7-14), 90-83, in a very entertaining game.
Townsend hit on 13 of 19 shots from the floor and led Moorpark scorers, but he was far from the only standout. SG Anish Sharda had a splendid game, scoring 23 pts on just 9 FGAs (he made 4 threes) and adding 5 asts. PG Johnny Gray had a team-best 8 asts, while PF Mike Atkinson had a strong overall game with 8 pts, 6 rebs and 6 asts. Ctr Joe Dural scored 9 of his 11 pts in the second half, while 6th man Tunde Alonge scored all 10 of his pts in the first half and ended up with a team-leading 7 rebs. Overall, Moorpark hit on 34 of 61 shots and earned 27 assists.
Moorpark led all the way, opening a 19-pt advantage midway through the second half at 64-45. Pierce rallied behind the hot shooting of SG Sylvester Allison and F/C Robert Parish III to close the gap to 5 at 79-74 with just under 5 mins remaining, but could get no closer. On the next possession, Atkinson drained a pair of FTs to make it 81-74, and on the following Moorpark possession Sharda made 3 FTs to restore the 10-point margin.
Allison led all scorers with 34 pts including 5 threes. Parish was especially impressive with 20 pts (including 4 threes) and 8 rebs. Ctr Carlos Arroyo had a strong game with 13 pts and a game-high 12 rebs. PG Ahmahl Amedu handed out a game-best 10 asts and also registered 5 steals.
