Second-ranked Antelope Valley (17-2, 3-0 in conference) jumped out to a 15-0 lead in the first 5-1/2 minutes of the game and cruised to an easy win over San Bernardino Valley (1-11, 1-2) Wednesday night in Lancaster.
SF Renita Mitchell nailed 5 threes and scored 17 pts to lead all scorers. Ctr Mariqueta Starling had 7 pts and 11 rebs, and PG Shalonie Hutchinson dished out 8 asts for the winners. Since AVC's lead fluctuated between 20 and 30 for most of the game, many reserves saw considerable action and 10 AVC players scored at least 2 points.
SG Juniqua Burt led SBVC with 12 pts and 6 asts. PG Cristina Gooden added 10 pts and 3 asts. But SBVC was done in by a horrible first half in which they shot 13.5% from the floor (5-for-37) and fell behind, 39-13.
