LA Valley got a dominant performance from Ctr Natasha Thomas to top visiting Glendale, 71-55. Thomas, a 6-3 freshman, scored 37 points on 16 of 21 shooting, and grabbed 18 rebounds, scoring 23 points in the second half as the Monarchs overcame an 8-point deficit at intermission.
Glendale took the lead in the opening minutes and pushed their advantage to 20-8 on the strength of 12 points from Ctr Jerniece Johnson. Valley rallied to trail by just 2 at 24-22 before Glendale pulled away again on a three by SG Julie An and a basket by PF Thea Bell to take a 34-26 halftime lead.
The second half, however, belonged to Thomas and the Monarchs. Thomas gave Valley a 44-43 lead with 11:40 left, and knocked down a three to give Valley a 6-point lead at 51-45. And by the time she scored on a putback basket to make it 57-45, Valley was in control for good.
