Joshua Brooks scored 15 of his team-high 17 pts in the second half and Reggie Dixon and Jeremiah Gray each scored 12 pts as Moorpark won its first home game of the season, 72-59, over El Camino Saturday afternoon.
After starting the season with 16 games on the road or in tournaments - and winning 9 of them - Moorpark (10-7) finally got to play in its own gym Saturday afternoon. And it took a little about two-thirds of the first half to settle in as El Camino (4-7) took a 27-19 lead with 6:50 left before halftime.
But then the Raiders went on a 10-1 run, taking a 29-28 lead on a driving lay-up by Brandon Hill with just over a minute left in the first half.
Darrion Hatfield hit a short jumper for El Camino in the final seconds of the half to give the Warriors a 30-29 lead at the break. And then in the second half, Kane Wildermuth scored in the opening seconds to make it 32-29.
Then Moorpark went on a 22-2 run, taking control of the game and leding by double digits the rest of the way. Justin Eisen put Moorpark in front, 34-32, with a 3-pointer early in the run, and the lead reached as many as 19 points at 64-45 following a short jumper by Brooks with 6:20 left.
Brooks finished with a team-high 17 pts plus a game-high 9 rebs and a team-best 5 asts. Dixon had 12 pts and 6 rebs, and Gray came off the bench for 12 pts on 5-for-7 from the floor plus 4 rebs, 2 blocks, an assist and a steal. Larry Bush had 9 pts, 4 rebs and a team-high 4 steals.
For El Camino, Derrick Twiggs came off the bench and scored a team-high 17 pts and added 3 rebs, 5 asts and 4 steals. Wildermuth had 10 pts and 4 steals, and Malik Wildermuth had 4 pts, 7 rebs and 5 asts. Emmanuel Pope scored 6 pts and grabbed a team-high 8 rebs.
